Private lessons or courses are not the same as personal.

Private Tuition

Our interpretation of private is that you alone or your group will receive exclusive attention from an instructor or a number of instructors. Normally private lessons are set up for groups of 4 or more and the cost of a lesson is calculated on how many instructors are required to give you the best quality of lesson possible and the cost of the venue in which we are teaching, and then the cost is split between the number of participants.

During this time no other person is allowed to participate or watch.

Personal Tuition

Our interpretation of personal is that you and usually no more than 3 companions attend to receive the personal attention of the instructors, often at a supervision ratio of 1-1 or 1-2. You can receive a lesson where you are the only student but you should be prepared to pay a minimum of £50 per hour. Other people may be booked to train at the same time as you but will not have the same instructor. By sharing the dojo you can reduce your fees.

Private Personal Tuition

These lessons are popular among those who are shy, who have personal issues and would prefer to train without company and receive the individual attention of instructors. These lessons are the most expensive but can sometimes be the best way to get over a sticking point in your training or help you get your confidence back after an attack. If you are prone to panic attacks or blackouts, we recommend these if you get embarrassed but still want to train.

We also recommend these lessons for those on a higher income with no fixed shift pattern or have a job or business commitments that leave only unsociable hours available to train. (These lessons are available any time of day but are also available after midnight and before 8am so the time is unimportant. Late or early training sessions limit the venue though since not all centres are open during these times.)

Common Factors

· Both private and person lessons allow privacy to allow you to train continuously without worrying about what other people are doing or thinking.

· Both types of training promote hugely accelerated training so technical ability and intuition for improvisation are brought on much quicker than in larger classes.

· Both allow you to gear your training needs to yourself rather than fitting in.

· Both limit the number of opponents you can have so we encourage attending classes too (even if only occasionally) since this allows you to work with different sizes, shapes, weights centres of balance, levels of experience etc.

All types of tuition and classes offer excellent value for money since what you get out of each training session can vary by how much attention you receive, how many questions you get to ask, how many partners you work with and other factors that balance the cost against the benefit.
