Membership Prices
Prices for membership can vary from school to school and are affected by the cost of running each school. Please see below for details of Renfrewshire. This will offer a guide to help you understand how the structure works. |

N.B. Our schools are based on Standing Order, because of the outcome of a manpower survey conducted from 2002-2004 when various aspects of instructors’ activities and time were observed and recorded. During each of these years 1 instructor at 1 venue was recorded as handling cash for the class members (fees, subscriptions and kit orders) for 120 hours per year. That’s an equivalent of 3 x 40 hour weeks at full time, or one full working month for a part time venue. It was decided that placing students on Direct Debit was not the way to go for reliable students because it took control of the payment away from the student. Instead, we opted for Standing Order since it allowed students to keep control of their payments. We incur a small charge for each transaction we receive, but it’s worth it because it allows all the instructors to be on the floor teaching where they are most needed and appreciated. It also provides a solid and permanent payment record to help avoid misunderstandings and disputes. To help discourage people from taking instructors off the floor for routine subscription payments, we have introduced a £1 administration charge for students who insist on paying cash for fees when standing order is available to them, and to compensate instructors for losing time on the floor. If you have a bank account that has the capacity to handle Standing Order Payments you should add £1 to each membership payment.
Incidental payments are not subject to administration charges since they require an instructor or admin assistant at the time of the transaction to ensure no mistakes are made when processing orders for licensing, kit and exams.

Licence and membership fees in your first year include all associated memberships required to train, e.g. Paisley YMCA require those who use the building to join the YMCA. We include it in your first year’s membership. |
