Why are we different? |

Why are we different?
· We are different because we care about the students on an individual level and every student has a relationship with their instructors that goes beyond the money.
· We are different because we actively invest time, money and energy in our students to help each person develop into the best they can be in every aspect of their lives.
· We are different because we train our students to teach what they know from early in their training because to break things up in depth promotes fuller understanding of how everything works and how to apply it in a variety of circumstances.
· We are different because we train most of our own staff. Most independent or non-political associations grow because instructors migrate to them from other organisations. We allow migrations but prefer to train our own staff since there is a better understanding of what is taught and how it is taught there.
· We are different because we are prepared to train students to become instructors from the age of 14 years old. They can’t qualify until they are 18 and this is the youngest an instructor can hold Professional Indemnity Insurance but we will train them until they are ready, offering enthusiastic and talented young teachers the opportunity to open their own schools and make a living whilst attending college or university that doesn’t require you to wear stripes on your shirt or ask “Do you want fries with that?” · The training allowance for instructors who volunteer to assist in a class is from £5 per hour. For an instructor to teach his or her own classes, with our guidance and support, they can earn over £50k per annum, based on multiple schools and working full time. (20-30 hpw)
· We are different because we counsel our students through difficult and sometimes tragic times in their lives without expecting payment.
· We are different because we don’t retain a profit from selling equipment to members.
· We are different because we are ready to accept you where you are in your life as long as you can accept and respect our rules.
· We are different because we run lessons of up to 4 hours when others schools may want you in and out in under 1 hour.
· We are different because we will testify to your character in court if you have to use what we teach you to defend yourself. (Remember that if what you show us is not good, that may not work in your best interest!)
· We are different because we accept accountability for what we teach you and how we guide you to apply it.
· We are different because we welcome personal friendships with our students as long as the roles of teacher and student don’t become confused.
· We are different because we do not permit our instructors or instructor trainees to date their students.
· We are different because we actively promote the Gospel of Christ on an interpersonal level in the Christian schools, not just say it’s a Christian school.
· We are different because we actively prevent bullying and persecution within our schools, making them a truly warm and welcoming environment for all who attend, even when it’s busy.
· We are different because we train in unique martial disciplines founded and developed by our federation’s Shihan.
· We are different because the Tam-Ryu classes teach effective combat disciplines, not sports, therefore the focus is not on the “point”, but the combat, or in some cases how to avoid the combat!
· Really though, to understand why we’re different, you need to ask our students.

Testimonials
· I came to the Bushido to learn self defence, fitness, confidence, to beat my fears. Training presented a very strict regime that improved my fitness and all of the above. I stuck it because I’m learning new stuff all the time so I never get bored. I was invited to join the instructor training programme and now I have the great opportunity and privilege of passing on the things that have helped me so much to others and I’m still learning. (5 years and counting) Rob-Sensei
· I was looking for a sword-based martial arts class near me and though the Bushido is not based on sword work, it is deeply integrated with it. When I got there I realised that it was a combat based discipline not a sport. I felt it trained me for life, not sport. Hence I’m still here and will be for as long as I can.(5 years and counting) Danny-sensei
· I was interested in martial arts and had a friend who was already going along. I stayed at the school because I was always learning something new. That was about 5 years ago and I’m still always learning something new. John-Sensei
· I was invited to come by some friends just over 3 years ago and I liked the mental and physical disciplines that challenged me. H.P.
· My older brother was training here and he was so enthusiastic about it that I really wanted to come too. That was 6 years ago and I’m still having fun P.H.
· I started training here because my friend was and I really enjoyed my training and made friends. That was 6 or 7 years ago and I’m still learning new things all the time; it’s not totally repetitive. D.B.
· I was looking for a martial arts class to give me self defence and fitness as well as to help keep me off the street. When I got here I found that it was different to any other martial arts classes I’d tried. It had great people and great teachers. I’ve made good friends and I’m still learning things all the time that I can use on a day to day basis. P.C.

Kids’ Testimonials
My mum asked me if I’d like to try a different martial arts class from the one I was going to and took me to the Bushido Academy in Paisley. It was a lot better than the last classes I’d been to because I felt like I was making good progress and learning a lot at each lesson. The stuff we learn is really useful J.B. |
